It was 21 November 1981 at the Istrana, Trevio Airbase in Italy. The No 51 Squadron of the Italian Airforce had challenged several F1 teams to a race over a distance of 1000 metres at the airbase.
The participants were Bruno Giacomelli in his Allfa Romeo 179/C2 F1, Nelson Piquet in the Parmalat Brabham BT49/9, Ricardo Patrese in the Brabham and the great Gilles Villeneuve in the difficult Ferrari 126CK 053.
This 1:43 scale model set depicts Gilles in his Ferrari and Lieutenant Daniele Martinelli in his F-104 racing each other. Gilles was the quickest over the 1000 metres with a time of 16.55 secs from a standing start and Daniele covered the distance in 20.05 seconds. In order to eliminate drag, Gilles ran without wings.
An absolute must for the serious F1 collector!
The model has a part of the runway with the Ferrari mounted, and the nose of the F104
