Brabham BT49 #5 Niki Lauda Canada GP Practice 1979 1:18
The Parmalat Racing Team Brabham-Ford Cosworth BT49 as driven by Niki Lauda during a Practice Session for the 1979 Canadian F1 GP (held at Montréal on 30th September). During a practice session, Lauda cut it short and informed team principal (Ecclestone), that he wished to retire immediately, as he had no more desire to "continue the silliness of driving around in circles". Niki, who had founded Lauda Air (a charter airline), immediately returned to Austria and started to run the company full-time. Having withdrawn from this Canadian GP, Niki did race in the following (USA East - Watkins Glen) GP as this was the last of the season, but then left racing until his return in 1982 (with the McLaren Team).
